Frontiers of Technology Summary
This Honor’s Experience consisted of a one semester course covering topics in both water and energy technology. In this class, I participated in homework assignments, group projects, discussions, an innovative idea project, and helped to design a course to teach engineering topics to non-engineers. I learned about many topics including renewable energy and water treatment. We also discussed many real world uses for this material, including how to design household solar systems and researching cases involving private versus public ownership of water sources. This class helped me to see how I can continue to use these concepts in the future. This honors class also allowed me to further my love of engineering by challenging me and enabling me to understand how to explain my ideas to people who do not have the same background. Since each project group in the class had a variety of majors, it was necessary to explain all of the steps we were taking towards the projects because not everyone had previous experience with the topics. I originally signed up for this class because I thought that it would be a good way for me to further my knowledge about water projects to help me to get more involved with the design of our Engineers Without Borders projects. Through this class, not only was I able to gain design knowledge but I was also able to gain valuable skills that will help me to be able to educate community members about how to run the systems we implement.
Sample Work
This is a sample of the work that I have done in the Frontiers of Technology seminar. This specific piece of work is the reflection journal that we put together throughout the semester. I chose this sample because it explains the role that I held in each of the projects we did throughout the semester as well as my reflection on the project. It also includes my suggestions to improve the class in the future as well as suggestions on how to teach an engineering class to non-engineers.
